The halfway mark of SA's most festive fly fishing event has just been completed and the results did not disappoint.
An incredible 496 fish were caught and released by the 64 anglers participating. Although, it was aptly pointed out that the consumption at the Legendary Notties pub had the organizer considering changing the format from that of a centimeter measurement to one of litres!
It's always been maintained that this event has little to do with fishing and it certainly lived up to it's reputation with the renowned Wildfly choice awards dominating proceedings.
The weather was sublime, with frosty mornings being complimented by wind free balmy winter days and hence the fish played ball.
The largest fish in the 1st leg of 61cm was eclipsed by a great rainbow hen of 65cm caught by Charl Marias, who also landed 29 trout earning him Top Fly Fisher. It was a big fish weekend with, 68 rainbows bigger than 5 pounds and 14 beasts topping the 7 pound mark…..and as always countless stories of the double digit fish that got away.
