Yet another big fish week, with SA Ladies Fly Angler Linda Gorlei sampling what the WildFly waters hold.

A massive frontal system holding in the Atlantic early in the week had the competitors of the 2nd Leg of the Tops Trophy Challenge (TTC) wondering what was in store for them...many predictions went this way :
and if the rumours on the street were to be believed, the Legendary Notties Hotel pub was well stocked ahead of time to cope with the predicted demand!
Unlike some participants in the 1st leg (names under wraps to protect the innocent...), the opening nights pub antics were kept to a mininum alongside the head wetting ceremony for young Nicholas Butcher who weighed in that morning at 54cm and 4.6kg - a fine catch for Carin and Richard Butcher. Congratulations!
Head Wetting for Nicholas Butcher!
A traditional head wetting of another kind also takes place at the Legs - those that have never fished a Challenge before get a special wellcome at the opening ceremony.
Making sure the newcomers are made welcome!
While the anglers steeled themselves to do battle for the great prizes on hand, I am pleased to report, however, that although somewhat reminiscent of a Cape winter - we even recorded some rain on Thursday and Friday night (just enough to keep the dust down) - the thick mist acts like a blanket and conditions were surprisingly mild.
The overcast conditions had the fish moving about and some 499 fish were brought to hand over the weekend. Top Angler of the Weekend was Deon Nel, for consistency catching big fish including this cracking 54cm brown trout...well done Deon!
